The Lake District is a fantastic place to live and work, and we can all take all steps to keep this place special for future generations to enjoy.
Businesses have a huge role to play in caring for our lakes. And it is not just the impact of your business, but the influence you can have on your guests and customers.
Here are some steps you can take in your business:
- Maintain your septic tank, and if you provide bathroom facilities, tell your customers how to use it properly.
- If you access water bodies, or encourage your customers to enjoy the water, help to prevent the spread of pollution and invasive non-native species (INNS) by following the Greener Boating Code.
- Avoid single use plastics wherever possible. Most plastic litter ends up in our water bodies and eventually in our seas. Choose sustainable alternatives wherever possible and support your customers and colleagues to take litter home, put it in the bin, or even attend a litter pick.
- Climate change is a global problem that will affect us locally. Use resources efficiently, and don’t forget to tell your customers what you are doing and encourage them to do the same. Encourage your customers to purchase local food and drink, and get around by boot, bike, boat or bus where possible. Every car-free day helps!
